Must get assignment done tonight! :O Anyhow, in the OSS lounge again without having gone home during the day (*sniff* i must reek to high heaven!) of which there was only one event of note - the OSS meeting! I was quite impressed by the turnout today with most of the OSS members showing up and even some of the older retired members being present (especially Yong - thanks for coming man! You had quite an impact on today's meeting) - which serves as a reminder to me of how much this organisation means to all of us! *i think i'm gonna cry* ;) Anyhow, the meeting was long (2 and a half hours) and the questions that were needed to be asked were put forth... the final result? Well, Ajay and Pinky did not voluntarily step down (as was my personal recommendation ages ago) which was a bit of a downer but despite this i feel that this issue as a whole has been adequately put to rest once and for all with everyone willing to move ahead in the current circumstances. I also felt that this meeting was a good impression on the newer members as it showed to them the importance of having full, and frequent, committee meetings so that any and all issues could be brought out early and allow everyone to decide collectively and be informed as to what was going on (something that was sadly lacking this year). It also brought to light the issue of the elections process here and i feel that the general concensus is that we should move away from the union to a state of semi-independence, especially in regards to allowing the OSS to run its own elections amongst the international student population (its going to be a long year of lobbying ahead), and now is the time to strike while the iron is hot! There should be another desperately needed meeting i feel in order to cement adequate policies and practices within the organisation which were ignored this year - especially in regards to making sure that it is the committee as a whole that is involved in the decision-making process! Also feel that the training should be more adequate (urgh, that one was probably my fault though...). There is still a lot to be amended for in the few weeks that we have left and communication and discussion on these issues should be the overiding priority! That and more informal gatherings - such as the one after the meeting today at Bar Rouge... Thank God this is all over and we're finally moving forward! Other than that - i just kept nodding off at all times during the day... ;) One small confession - i got another pack of cigarettes! *DOH* Last one i swear... :D Read some interesting news articles today... like the one about Southern Methodist University in Texas shutting down a bake sale, which was apparently a protest of affirmative action, in which cookies were offered for sale at different prices, depending on the buyer's race or gender! I'm sure you can imagine the result... pretty imaginative protest though. Think you have the worst job in the world? Check out the list of the worst jobs in science (the worst being a flatus odor judge!)... And how about the dog with the world's largest ears! 12 inches long!!! (Pic included - and apparently he's related to the Hush Puppies dog!). Cute animation called Icon Wars here having some fun with those cute Windows icons... ;) Ok enough from me... still keep getting distracted by friendster! ;p
