Fare thee well Australia...

Mood: Reminiscing
Currently listening to: Leaving on a Jet Plane - Chantal Kreviazuk (oh the irony...)

Well, its that time again... :(

Another chapter of my life closes and a new one opens (well, at least i hope so - that goddamned plane better make it!)... on the bright side, i'm leaving under much more favourable circumstances. As i recall - when i left Canada i was the only one left in a deserted hostel for the last week and a half, i hadn't eaten anything (save for a box of rice crackers) for the past four days, i had pathetically tried to kill myself earlier (and obviously failed miserably while making myself unbelievably sick at the same time), played Shogun (a sort of Japanese Risk) against myself for two weeks without having seen a soul and between starving, (dry) vomiting, ranting, sleeping and cursing at my game i continuously stared at the $50 i had left, which was the exact amount for the fare to the airport in Toronto. That airline food was the best i ever had. :(

Doesn't make leaving any easier, and the more i do it (third time by my count) the harder it seems to get...

I was packing my stuff just now and, well, some of the items i cleared up brought up some fond memories of my time here and even from earlier times... like my Tae Kwon Do uniform! Man... the tournaments we were in, and Master Kim with his exercises (where the hell did i put my belt though???)... And a battered picture i found nestled within its sleeve of me and the guys way back then... I wonder how Assim and Bryon are doing...

Memories... and then i found some assorted pics and items from my time here... I remember...

- Arriving in Frank Tate House for the first time way back then in the second semester of '98 - the shuttle bus had dropped me off at the main gate and there i was, about to turn 18 in a few months, and with all these aspirations of a new and better start, staring slack-jawed at this HUGE mansion in front of me and wondering what i had gotten myself into... *grin* ;)

- Meeting all those crazy dudes i would get to know... ranging from my insane neighbour with his morning moodswings (which would range from 'Goooood morning!' to 'What the fuck you looking at???')and Jolly (into whose room i would frequently break into, and he never figured out how, to hijack his cookies and computer!), and the indomitable Harsh Metha to Bernard the insane Mauritian and my future roommate and friend...

- Going to the first and last Frank Tate House ball where Paul made a scene with the RAs and the police had to be called in...

- Playing basketball with Bernard and our residential chef (what's his name!!!???) - watching him shoot hoops in his chef's uniform! ;)

- Meeting a sassy, charming gal who went by the name of Jen Lin for the first time (i just found the pics), falling in love (over Indomie no less!) and having the best three years of my life (thus far!) right after... (Bernard you scheming bastard! *grinz*)

- Watching and cheering on our FTH 'battle of the bands' team led by Melven during their first attempt at fame, and then with Nazzi heading it one year later (how IS Shazlin doing???) and watching them come in second place...

- Becoming the FTH network administrator with Kunal and setting up the whole thing (and getting bribed with Arnott cookies by residents who wanted their computers fixed!)...

- Playing network games in FTH with the other gamers (GOOOODLIKE!!!!) in the hostel until my eyes bled... man, those were some fun times!

- Meeting Jason for the first time... jeez! That was hilarious! (yeah, mr "What's my name?") *grin* Remember drinking those coronas on the roof? Yeah... ;)

- Meeting a Nigel Wong for the first time and getting suckered into joining a little organisation called the OSS... first thing i had to do was write an article about homosexuals on campus, and who should i be interviewing but a MONSU Queer Officer by the name of Tim Wilson who would become the future President of MONSU...

- Meeting my compadres Alex, Abe, Jangi and Moshe... met Alex when we were forced to be groupmates and we just clicked after that *grin* (and we were assignment partners ever since for what? Six subjects? Daaaamn...)

- Becoming the OSS Director in 2002 (we only had six people at the time! All execs! Me, Andrew, John, Joa, Jason and Jules...) meeting and working with the best group of people i've ever had the honour to encounter... During our recruitment drive (which netted 40 people!) i got to know my future friends and comrades Chan, Jessie, Yong, Lana, Lillian, and many more... Damn, that was THE single best year of my time here... *sniff* Also got to know Chen Hoe (who was at the time my opposite in MUISS - hah! *grin*) at the time as well as the MUISS committee... and i'm getting to know them better still now with two MMNs behind us... ;)

- Having some of the most memorable birthdays... back in '99 (i think) all the guys in FTH (that's about 40-50 of them for your info!!!) got onto the roof and tried to ambush me with waterballoons and cream pies! ;) Or the party in '02 at Caroline's place... wooo... kissing Julian, burning my hand on a shot, drinking lavender and then driving around in a cowboy hat with a hangover... *yowza*

- Paintball! We RULE!!!

- Going to the NLC conference in Tasmania for the first time and 'experiencing' the NLC as well as making a lot of new friends like Janice, Chai, Louisa and many others - same as the Adelaide conference the next year and actually joining the NLC (which was a real surprise given my stance on it - damn you MUOSS girls!)... A big "good luck" to Chai and the rest of the team for this term - i'm sorry i can't stay to see the finale but it was great to work with you guys... chin up! Because you've made a believer out of me... (and yes, sorry boss but i'll get that reorganisation plan done ASAP!) ;p

*sniff* Well, that was a quick trip down my five and a half year memory lane (selective though... yes there were bad times too but let me just say that even they led to good experiences in the end...) and i'd better stop reminiscing now because there's something in my eyes... damn dust... *sniff*

Well, let me just say... thank you. All of you whom i am proud and thankful to call my friends and kamaraden here in Australia... thanks for all the good times and the memories which i will treasure until i'm old and grey, and especially a big thanks to y'all who made this road a real interesting one (although my sanity is paying for that now *wink*)... Stay in touch all right!?!? ;)

Well... its almost time to move out... you know how it goes...

All my bags are packed, I'm ready to go
I'm standin' here outside your door
I hate to wake you up to say goodbye

But the dawn is breakin', it's early morn
The taxi's waitin', he's blowin' his horn
Already I'm so lonesome I could die

So kiss me and smile for me
Tell me that you'll wait for me
Hold me like you'll never let me go

'Cause I'm leaving on a jet plane
I don't know when I'll be back again
Oh, babe, I hate to go

There's so many times I've let you down
So many times I've played around
I'll tell you now, they don't mean a thing

Every place I go, I think of you
Every song I sing, I sing for you
When I come back I'll wear your wedding ring

So kiss me and smile for me
Tell me that you'll wait for me
Hold me like you'll never let me go

'Cause I'm leaving on a jet plane
I don't know when I'll be back again
Oh, babe, I hate to go

Now the time has come to leave you
One more time, oh, let me kiss you
And close your eyes and I'll be on my way

Dream about the days to come
When I won't have to leave alone
About the times that I won't have to say...

Oh, kiss me and smile for me
Tell me that you'll wait for me
Hold me like you'll never let me go

'Cause I'm leaving on a jet plane
I don't know when I'll be back again
Oh, babe, I hate to go

And I'm leaving on a jet plane
I don't know when I'll be back again
Oh, babe, I hate to go

But I'm leaving on a jet plane
(Ah ah ah ah)
Leaving on a jet plane
(Ah ah ah ah)
Leaving on a jet plane
(Ah ah ah ah)

Ok, maybe i shouldn't have pasted the whole song but, hey, its my blog dammit! ;p

And to those who are going back, see you in a few days! ;)

Bye bye OSS lounge... :(

Bye everyone... Dammit... i'm gonna miss you all in a big way... Take care of yourselves - and don't do anything i would *winks and walks off into the sunset*
