"Love sought is good, but given unsought, is better." - Shakespeare, William

Went speed dating with Kwong Heng and his buddy Quentin (now there's a name for a chinese guy) at Bistro 1919 last night, and yeah it was pretty good actually... ;)

Location was nice - it was a converted colonial mansion in the middle of KL - with a pretty nice atmosphere and fusion music... funky! And on the plus side for RM45 you also got a free drink of your choice as well as hors d'oeuvres, dessert and coffee/tea! Yeah! Free food! ;p

So anyways, there were 13 guys and 9 girls in attendance and it sort of works with each person being allocated a number and nametag, as well as a marker book. Since there were fewer girls in attendance the guys were allocated tables with each one of them for a number of rounds (meaning that for all of us there were periods of time when we wouldn't be doing anything) and we would be given 5 minutes to chat to each lady and tick (away from them of course) in your book as to whether or not you would like to meet them again, as well as providing comments if you want. At the end of the night these are collected and if there's a match an email with their details would be sent to you as well as any comments they wrote about you...

It was surprisingly easy to chat with everyone (despite the fact that i think i made more male friends in the end - much swapping of business cards ensued) and i was really amazed that there were no awkward silent moments. Lots of interesting gals... there was a STAR reporter, Malaysian Philharmonic choir singer, one girl named after a Baywatch girl (no really! Guess which one!) and a chemical engineer to name a few - not to mention a few RMIT and Melbourne Uni grads! And yes, i behaved myself and didn't make up any (read 'too many') fantasies about myself for my own amusement... (although NEXT time... ;p) Felt that the 5 minutes limit was a bit short and it always seemed to end just when the conversation was getting interesting - never really had the urge to get out of a conversation or feel thanful at being 'saved by the bell'! :)

Hrm, most of the girls were pretty ok looking, but almost all of them were a little older than i was (range was from 24-29) and i guess when they found out my age and the fact that i'm still a student... well... *SIGH* (note: Four of them run their own businesses!)

Annoying. Must graduate ASAP... :(

But me being me i put a big fat 'NO' for everyone (erm, that and the fact that if i didn't get a match i'd get to go for free again - hehe, Kiasu or what?). Well, erm, except for one who just happened to remind me of someone... ;p We shall see (yes, its the chemical engineer! Bwahaha!)...

Was chatting with Quentin at the end of it and, yeah, in retrospect i'll just put the night in this way - rather than spending that equivalent amount of money (or more!) on a jug of beer with a bunch of male friends with the outside hope of getting lucky that night, i managed to get a glass of beer, some grub, meet some new male friends, AND privately chat with 9 ladies during the course of the night! When you put it that way - and coupled with the fact that i tend to spend about RM100 per night on weekends - its a pretty fucking good deal!!! Will try it again if the mood should hit me again, at the very least to make some friends and hang out (note to self - tick yes more often! It ain't marriage!)...

As for today? Spent most of it in the library at uni for my other assignments (the one due today is incomplete *sigh*) and then went for casting. Julian is coming down today again but Joa is working late as is Kwong Heng and Leonard... Zamil is in Bali (lucky bastard! ;p), Andrei is doing some family thing and Chen Hoe isn't free to meet up... Dammit, Friday night and i've got nothing planned!!! Even my parents are going out! Well, no surprise really...

Really want to DO something!!! Think i'll have dinner by myself and if no one else is still free i'll either check out Zouk (going solo!) or watch a movie... ;)

Ok, later y'all...

Today's Links:

The curse of the Asian man - "I can sum up The Curse of the Asian Man really quickly - no one wants us. Think about it. When was the last time you met a girl who had a "thing" for Asian guys? Sure, I've heard girls say that they want a guy who is a good listener, maybe funny, maybe handsome, maybe strong, maybe a lot of things ... but when they're thinking of the man of their dreams, nine times out of ten it ain't an Asian Guy they've got in mind. That doesn't make any sense. I don't think girls hate us. I just think for a lot of women, it doesn't even occur to them to put us in the "dateable" category. We're nice to talk to, we can help them with their homework - heck, we might even be fun to be with, but I guess we're just not attractive enough. You know, men and women might be more similar than I thought."

Monty Python and the Quest for the Holy Grail (in Lego) - [Quicktime streaming] Pretty well done! Oh yeah, Monty Python's Life of Brian is also being used as an antidote to all the hysteria surrounding Mel Gibson's movie...

Aids risk 'cut by circumcision' - "Men who have been circumcised may be six times less likely to contract the HIV virus than uncircumcised men, research carried out in India suggests." On the other hand there's THIS article as well: Circumcisions prevention of disease in doubt - "If fewer men were circumcised, the rate of sexually transmitted diseases and unplanned pregnancies might decrease, some awareness groups say. Their assertion is that uncircumcised men are more likely to wear condoms because they possess more sexually sensitive tissue." To cut or not to cut?

Japanese firm unveils large robot for disaster rescue work - "The five-tonne T-52 Enryu (literally "rescue dragon") is hydraulically operated and equipped with two arms ending in pincer "hands" that can grasp and remove obstacles to help rescuers reach people trapped under rubble." Check out the picture! Awesome!!!

Blow away a cow for $400, and other weird tourist attractions - "How would you fancy the chance to fire a rocket-launcher at a cow? Or an anti-aircraft gun at a chicken? They are among the special attractions on offer to tourists in the Cambodian capital of Phnom Penh. I think that tops off the parasite museum, sewer tours, turtle races, asylum-hotels and bone sculptures in the list of weird tourist attractions sent in by readers in response to the story about Flight Centre's Top 10 Strangest Tourist Attractions."

I am not big in the trouser department: Enrique Iglesias - "The embarrassing confession came when Enrique, 28, was asked if he would go nude on an album cover. "Maybe I've not got the biggest penis in the world. Maybe if you had the biggest penis in the world, you would sell records. But I don't. I could actually have the smallest penis in the world out there," the report quoted Enrique as saying. However, the news will be a big blow to Enrique's reputation as a legendary Latin lover." :O
