My broken cocoon0 commentsMood: Still comfy Currently listening to: Pachelbel's Cannon - Pachelbel, Johann But first, the usual description of my daily grind (you have no idea how that word suits my current existence so perfectly)... Did a whole lot of nothing today. Yes, the assignment. Two weeks late and counting and it just tears at the very fabric of my sanity (or whats left of it) to even look upon it... *sigh* No more. We will mention this topic no further. Accompanied my mother this evening to the opening of the French Art Festival 2004 at Midvalley. Not the public opening mind you, but rather one for the press and various VIPs (my mother's on the Alliance Francaise committee) and to watch the opening film of the festival - The Himalayas (movie review to follow, hopefully). It was mainly a rather awkward affair for me since i knew next to no one and so i spent most of my time milling around the table of hors d'oeuvres (they had caviar! Mmmm... its been a while). What followed were the usual array of speeches by the various dignitaries and then the screening of the above movie. Not the greatest of choices mind you, seeing as the whole thing was in Tibetan, had English subtitles, and was - although very good - rather slow. Yes, not the greatest of choices in opening a festival of FRENCH arts. The previous year's choice was better - 8 Femmes. An excellent French movie by any standard! ;) Supped at Bestari's after that and then played the part of the 'knight in shining armour' (i always fall for that - must be the idiotic Frenchman in me) by riding my trusty steel steed of American manufacturing and rescuing Selina from the clutches of that den of villainy itself - Jalan Sultan Ismail on a Friday night. I shudder at the mere thought of it. *shudder* See? Took her back to Sunway where we went for some mamaka and where i was rewarded with a (well-deserved) milo ais. Hrmm, maybe this whole 'fair maiden' thing isn't such a bad gig after all... ;) On a side note i should perhaps mention that she was exceedingly lucky in that barely minutes before receiving her call i had reversed my policy on communication with the outside world. Yes, you heard me - i am a hermit no more! Let the world tremble with my re-emergence from self-imposed, depressive solitude! *maniacal laughter follows* I blame Leonard. So, er, guys - call me ok? I'll pick up this time. Promise! :) On an altogether different note, i did some random surfing and found an actual Russian online comicbook on Hitler vs Stalin, with both duking it out super powers style. Ruskie propaganda obviously, but well drawn and entertaining if you want to hear memorable lines like "My marshal's baton is the personification of unbending will power for victory of the multinational Soviet people!" while Stalin lays down some serious (and funky) ass-kicking on ol' Hitler. Hilarious. ;) Oh, and has anyone heard of this (aptly named) upcoming comedy called A Day Without A Mexican? Basically looks like a satire on the American outlook on hispanics which starts off with the premise that all 14 million of them suddenly vanish one day and all the stereotypical jobs that they are usually associated with are suddenly vacant. To wit: "As he arrived to the Capitol building, Senator Abercrombie promises to find people to work on the fields for five times what they were paying Latino workers..." or "I came into the restaurant this morning and no one was there. There’s no food, no clean dishes… no customers! I have to risk my life to get Tomatoes!". You get the idea. Ok, thats it for tonight. ;)
