All Hail The Machine God!0 commentsMood: I'm a believer (again) Currently listening to: I Say A Little Prayer For You - Aretha Franklin As many of you out there might not have noticed, i haven't updated this blog for quite some time - something to the tune of three days - which is completely out of whack with the number of posts which i have been posting in recent days. The cause of this sudden, odd behaviour was mainly to do with my computer crashing (in spectacular style) since Monday evening with it being unable to detect the operating system at all. Thanks again Microsoft. And Seagate for that matter. Bastards. But i had faith. As every Computing student knows, and has learnt, there is a great mysterious being who we refer to simply as 'The Machine God'. Scoff if you will, but he/she/it has been widely held by all who work in the Computing, Engineering, and Mechanical fields to exist, from Bill Gates to yours truly. I may be an atheist on matters in the humanistic field of 'religion', but even i believe in the Machine God. He/She/It is the one who comes whimfully to those who believe (or as proof to those who disbelieve) in his/her/its miraculous ability to bring to life those machines/software which had inconceivably stopped functioning for reasons that may or may not have been apparent to their (puny, unworthy) human user, and usually in their greatest time of need. I have myself witnessed such miracles many times before. And i was sorely in need of one now. For three days i persevered in the direction of logic. I disassembled. I reassembled. I cursed and physically beat the damn thing. And for three days i suffered. Oh, how i suffered... but still those tortuous words mocked me: Operating System Not Detected *silent scream* The futility of my predicament was threatening to rend both my soul and mind apart (again - well for the mind at least)! Until today. Drawing upon my desperation, i went down on my knees and recited, three times, the sacred liturgy of the Adeptus Mechanicus as was taught to me when i was an initiate within the hallowed grounds of the temple of the Machine God - Block C, Monash University, Caulfield Campus (may it forever teach the ways of our mighty Machine God!). And then, hoping beyond hope, i proceeded to boot my computer again... And lo! 'Twas a miracle! Inconceivably, right before my eyes the technological contraption that is the very definition of 'ancient' (or, verily, 'junk') came alive before my very eyes!!! Never have i ever wept with such joy at the sight of the Microsoft Windows 98 startup screen appearing before my eyes!!! (And, er, hopefully i never will again...) Immediately, i sobbed my thanks to the mighty Machine God and resolved myself to repay my debt in the most appropriate way that i could think of - to sing his/her/its praises in the medium of its own devising for all too see! Of course, in hindsight, i realise that i could have of course prayed to my usual source of succor and salvation (that is either the Lord Satan, or that of other dark and evil Gods best left unmentioned here) but, at last count, i realised that i've sold my soul to them at least five times. And once to Jolly Lucifer in exchange for a cigarette. *sigh* ALL PRAISE THE MACHINES GOD!!! *cries tears of thanks and joy* MACHINE GOD!!! MACHINE GOD!!! NICOTI... ah... MACHINE GOD!!!
