Good Morning0 commentsMood: Groggy Currently listening to: Somewhere Over The Rainbow/What A Wonderful World - Israel Kamakawiwo Ole *yawnz* Just woke up. In a complete reversal of my previous nocturnal activities i seem to have actually managed to fall asleep PRIOR to midnight - which hasn't happened for some time - and i now find myself up and about at the equally ungodly hour of 6am. Improvement? You betcha. ;) Did a whole lot of nothing on today (Sunday i mean) and was strangely tired for most of the day. Which also unfortunately means that i did hardly anything for my dad this Father's Day aside from wishing him a "Happy Father's Day" verbally. Feel kind guilty about it so i'll try and come up with something inventive today (Monday) to make up for it... Whoo, this whole writing posts for the previous day thing is getting kinda confusing! ;p And on that Father's Day note: PAUL!!! Dad's wondering why you didn't call you lazy SOB! ;p Hmm, what else did i do? Erm... i washed my car(s), finally. Which was pretty much the only time i left the house. Yeah. So boring. Today (Monday) should be abusy day however as i need to do quite a few things which require me to be out and about town, namely getting my passport renewed (and getting some passport photos done while i'm at it), applying for the MyKad, and then going for a job interview with CSA in the afternoon. Oh, and going for the Fete De La Musique in the evening... any takers? Gimme a call if you're interested. Looks like i've got two missed calls from Zamil on my phone while i was sleeping. Eep! Sorry man, was just too knackered! I wonder if he managed to get through... :o Oh, and before i forget - hey Oaky!!! I figured out who sang that song which you sent to me! Its Somewhere Over The Rainbow/What A Wonderful World by Israel Kamakawiwo Ole, who's a famous hawaiian performer who recently passed away. Beautiful song, i recall hearing it during their tribute to him on CNN (i think) some time ago... Heh. Anyone else need any song identification? ;) Currently reading the Military.com newsletter which i subscribe to, and man they've got some funky tech stuff in the pipework... Looks like the US Navy is continuing its experiments with Rail Gun technology (or what they call the Electro Magnetic Projector), which for the uninitiated is able to fire projectiles at the mind-boggling speed of 13,000 mph in 0.2 seconds! A "...test demonstrated that a rail gun projectile's kinetic energy could create a 10-foot diameter crater, 10 feet deep in solid ground, and achieve projectile penetration to 40 feet." Holy crap! And such munitions can be guided as well! Other advantages to be gained from this technology are mainly space saving measures (Rail gun projectiles are smaller and easier to store: a standard AGS magazine holds 1,500 rounds; a rail gun magazine could hold 10,000 rounds in the same amount of space) as well as doing away with the space and storage required for the propellants required by current guns. On the downside a LOT of electrical power is required to fire the gun, and there are current issues with the long-term (and even short-term) durability of the materials that make up the gun. Still, pretty cool eh? ;) On a related note, the US Army is replacing all of its current uniforms with the one that you can see in the pic. Apparently this grey, digitally designed camouflage allows soldiers to adequately blend into ANY surrounding which they may find themselves in. I'm not too sure if it cold really be that useful for, say, a jungle environment though - i mean, its GREY for crying out loud! Ah well, i could be wrong... It also has some other fancy reworked features, such as the insane number of pockets it offers, the minimal use of badges, some new camel coloured ventilated boots, the fact that it is designed to completely complement the new body armour/pads, AND the fact that it has no buttons, but instead utilizes a lot of velcro. Which may not be a good thing, given how noisy velcro is... ;) I don't know - it kinda makes the soldiers look like they're the evil generic henchmen featured in one too many sci-fi movies (Total Recall springs to mind). That and its GREY, yeuch... Ok, rant over. Gonna go greet the sun now...
