Review: Mini@tures0 commentsMood: A tad tired. Currently listening to: Haunted - Evanescence Just came back from the show and, in keeping with my (ill disciplined) policy with reviews i have decided to write about it immediately. That and i'm going to try and keep it as short as possible, at about one or two paragraphs maximum! ;) Extract from the synopsis: The Mulleras Dance Company will perform for the first time in Malaysia this innovative show. On the stage, the performance begins with the dancers and the multimedia screening evolving independently. The screen flashes sped-up images such as moving traffic or a moving train. The dancers begin interacting with the screen and as the performance continues, their relationship becomes more and more intimate, to the point of the dancers only dancing with the multimedia and rarely independent of it. This is going to be a hard experience to describe since the whole thing tended to be a very surreal presentation of interpretive dance mixed with a healthy degree of interaction between the dancers and the multimedia scenes from the screen. I believe that pictures are available at the above synopsis site and videos available at their company site (see bottom) so you can probably get a better impression of what it looked like from there. The whole presentation was divided into two main sections, the second being the longest. The first section mainly consisted of the dancers going into some rather complex routines with each other (there are four of them, three female and one male) in which they would writhe, twist and interact with each other while the screen displayed various flashing images of blinking eyes and whatnot, while some pretty awesome alternative techno tracks played in the background. The second section was where things really got interesting with the multimedia interactivity of the screen coming into play, with the dancers having to giving the pretension that they were manipulating (or indeed, were being manipulated) by various image-defined objects which appeared on the screen, with a plethora of incredibly imaginative scenarios transpiring. It really is hard to describe, but the degree of coordination, memorization and physical dexterity that was required continuously, and without pause, throughout the one hour presentation is simply amazing to behold! At one hour it was a little shorter than i expected but it was definitely the best item i have yet seen at the French Art Festival, and if they should come to your area be sure to check them out - it was that good! On a side note, be sure to check out the Mulleras Dance Company website for videos of Mini@tures and their Invisibles project, pictures, bios, and touring schedule (they'll be back in Malaysia in October!). 5 out of 5! :)
