Beyond The Sea0 commentsMood: *yaaaawn* Currently listening to: Beyond The Sea - Royal Crown Revue (my fave version!) *sigh* What a classic... (as made famous by Bobby Darin of course) Beyond The Sea Somewhere beyond the sea Somewhere waitin' for me My lover stands on golden sands And she watches the ships that go Sailin' sailin' Somewhere beyond the sea Somewhere watchin' for me If I could fly like birds on high Then straight to your arms I go sailin' And somewhere beyond the sea Well she's there watchin' for me If I could fly like birds on high Then straight to your arms I'd go sailin' sailin' Well its far beyond the stars And its clear beyond the moon And I know beyond a doubt My heart will lead me there soon And we'll meet I know we'll meet Beyond the shore and we'll kiss just as before Happy we'll be beyond the sea And never again I'll go Sailin' sailin' And I know beyond a doubt That my heart will lead me there soon And we'll meet I know we'll meet Beyond the shore and we'll kiss just as before Happy we'll be beyond the sea And never again I'll go Sailin' No more sailin'... Bye bye sailin'... So long sailin'... And its far... far... Yup, definitely one for those of us who haven't found anyone yet (or are seperated from their object of affection by distance - eh, Joa & Jules? ;p) Whats that? Some of you haven't heard the song before? For shame!!! ;) Well, actually, i think you'll be hearing it soon enough at any rate - Kevin Spacey's version that is! Yup, he's directing and starring in the upcoming Bobby Darin film bio which is, unsurprisingly entitled Beyond The Sea. Saw a little teaser on Jay Leno recently which had Spacey singing the song, stairs and all, while chasing after Sandra Dee and it just looked so... classy dammit! :) Royal Crown Revue rocks by the way (thanks to my bro for introducing them to me, he's seriously into swing) - quite possibly one of the best swing bands out there at the moment and they've been around for some time... Check out their website link above for samples! Hell you've probably heard them already! Anyone remember that awesome scene in The Mask where he's in the swing club and the band strikes up with their drums and he starts dancing with Cameron Diaz? Yup, that's Royal Crown Revue playing Hey Pachuco! ;) Current fave songs include Barflies At The Beach (which is a retake on the Miller classic Sing, Sing, Sing), Salt Peanuts, Zip Gun Bop, Friday The 13th, and She Walks On Fire. Ah, nothing quite like prohibition era nostalgia. I want a fedora too dammit!!! ;p Er... moving on i'm not sure what else to say since i posted earlier and did hardly anything else aside from working all day... Oh wait - its time for a... SHAMELESS PLUG! Yup, shameless blog plug time with 2 new blogs to highlight for your viewing pleasure! Please welcome the following folks to the Sanitarium... Serina William - Yup thats her name, no relation - physically or ethnically - to a rather large tennis player of [almost] the same name. A friend of Yolanda and Se... i mean, Princess Ann, she is one of the numerous 'ghost' readers here at the Sanitarium, an avid latin dancer AND Toastmaster... o_O Jackie Leong - My fellow slave down at CSA who also bears an uncanny resemblance in many ways to a certain Jason Hii... A 'Monash Boy' as well so of course we got along grand right from the start! That and well, there we were with nothing to do at work so - hola! - we suddenly discover that we both blog! Is blogger 'teh bomb' or what? Go forth and visit! YEAR 2025: Army's Futuristic Uniform Right, since the previous military articles sparked so much interest i feel compelled to add one more before returning us all to the bizarre news that we all love (or hate) here in the Sanitarium... Full article here. Dressed in black from head to toe and wearing a helmet that allows barely a glimpse of his face, Staff Sgt. Raul Lopez looked like something out of a science fiction thriller.Lopez, an infantry Soldier stationed at the Natick Soldier Center in Massachusetts, spent four days in what could be the Army uniform of the future at the 24th Army Science Conference, explaining the technology behind it. The black fabric of the form-fitting suit would be made through the wonder of nanotechnology, which involves manipulating atoms and molecules to create things at the nanometer scale. That's about 50,000 times smaller than the diameter of a strand of hair. Soldiers wearing the suit would have the ability to blend into any environment, like a chameleon. The helmet is the main hub of the uniform, where "all of the action happens," Lopez said. A tiny video camera in front provides 360-degree situational awareness. A series of sensors inside give the Soldier three-dimensional audiological hearing and the ability to amplify specific sounds, while lowering the volume of others... ...Thermal sensors weaved into the fabric of the uniform control its temperature, based on the Soldier's environment. An on-board respirator, tethered to the Soldier's back, provides a continuous supply of fresh air – eliminating the need for a protective mask. Should the Soldier have the visor up, or the helmet off, and breath in some kind of harmful agent, the uniform sensor will immediately detect it, release tiny embedded capsules to counter it and inject treatment into the Soldier's body... ...The uniform might be made out of fabric treated with another technology featured in the conference's exhibit hall, shear thickening fluid. Unofficially referred to by some as liquid body armor, STF is made of equal parts polyethylene glycol – an inert, non-toxic thickening agent used in a variety of common products, like some ice creams – and miniscule glass particles, said Eric Wetzel, who heads the STF project team in the Weapons and Materials Research Directorate of the U.S. Army Research Laboratory... AND the exoskeleton is supposed to be a part of it. Just a reminder - the above image is a CONCEPTUAL model and NOT a working prototype. ;) In other news a brand spanking new F-22 Raptor has crashed causing more pressure on the financial woes of the F-22 project... Right, i'm outta here.
