Anybody Feel That?

Mood: Wtf?
Currently listening to: Shook Me All Night Long - ACDC (oh the irony of my random song list)

Thought Of The Day: "You think Nature is some Disney movie? Nature is a killer. Nature is a bitch. It's feeding time out there 24 hours a day, every step that you take is a gamble with death. If it isn't getting hit with lightning today, it's an earthquake tomorrow or some deer tick carrying Lime disease. Either way, you're ending up on the wrong end of the food chain." - Jeff Melvoin, Northern Exposure, Bolt from the Blue, 1994

And there i was... calmly writing my blog and chatting to Sel and Sneexe on ICQ when i felt that my head is gently swaying from side to side, making me wonder if i was sleepier than i thought.

And THEN i realise that the table i'm sitting at is bumping against the wall.

Slowly raising my arms, i find that its doing it on its own accord... which is about when i realised that my apartment (a penthouse situated on the 36th floor) was shaking with gradually undeniable force! A quick check revealed that there was no wind at all (it sways a bit during really bad storms), but revealed that the clothes hanging on the lines were swaying alarmingly! And then i got disconnected from the net and you could hear dogs howling in the distance...

"Erm... mom? The house is shaking."

...at which point my parents woke up and we collectively started having nightmares about contractors with cheap concrete.

So, yeah, it lasted for a good 15 minutes between 12:10am (or 12:15am) and 12:20/12:30am...

Guess it must've been an earthquake. Bad one by the sound of it since my friend Andrew up in Ampang messaged me asking if i felt it too... The good thing about Malaysia is that we're outside the Ring Of Fire so i'm guessing Indonesia or Thailand (and maybe the Phillipines). No news yet though...

Never felt the tsunami one (despite being awake at the time) but i sure as hell felt this one, which implies that either a larger quake has occured or one closer to home happened... (OR someone dropped a nuke/aliens invaded/refinery exploded/arms depot immolated/etc)

Hrmm... hope its not too bad wherever the epicenter was.

UPDATE!

Looks like the first news reports have hit the web (1:10am)...

Strong earthquake recorded in eastern Indonesia

8.2 earthquake registered off Sumatra

Seems to be a discrepancy between the two with one saying 6.0 and the other 8.2 (helluva difference there), but yeah... its Indonesia...

UPDATE!!!

Yup, its 8.2, WNW of Sibolga, Sumatra...

Looks like a fair bit of activity the past few months as well...

Hrmmm... Japan says its 8.5 on the Richter scale and the TV reportage has commenced (1:20am) with the BBC saying that Tsunami warnings have been issued for Thailand and Indonesia...
