Sahara Tent0 commentsHeya folks! Dust off your fez and practice your belly dancing because as promised we'll be going Arabic this weekend at the very highly recommended Sahara Tent down at the Fortuna Hotel! As usual, i haven't managed to personally get a look at the place but, judging from the pics on their website it looks like we'll all be in for a hell of an experience... I mean, with everything from an authentic Arabic environment, award winning food, and shisha (sashi?) whats not to like? Hell, the place even has its own traditional hair salon(!), souvenir shop and Arabic mini-market! (And yes, you read that right - a HAIR SALON in the restaurant!!! Any takers?) As for the post-dinner event, i'm going to leave that open for now with the possibility of us either staying at the restaurant for dessert, shisha, and drinks or wandering down to Jalan Bukit Bintang and hitting one of the many places there... Here's the Fried Chillis review in its entirety: Sahara surely has a nice arabic ambience, occupying a spaciously open balcony where the open kitchen can be observe and an arabically elaborate bright interior. Once seated, try the Arabic Tea which has a rich tea flavour and can be a tad sweet. For entrees, their vegetarian humus (RM8.00) consisting of creamy chickpeas mixed with Sesame cream, lemon juice and olive oil is a good bet. Another one worth mentioning is the Motabel (Vegetarian RM8.50) which consists of grilled eggplant, onion and capsicum mixed with sesame cream, lemon juice, garlic and topped with olive oil. Normally eaten with some pitta bread.. excellent. If you are new to Sahara Tent, try the Mixed Grill (RM35.00) for the main course. Its a combination of one skewer of kebab, Shagaff (chargrilled lean lamb), Shish taouk (chargrilled chicken) and Arayess (chargrilled arabian bread with minced lamb, tomatoes, onions and herbs). Since most of the main course dishes are in this one dish, it will give you a fair taste of what middle eastern cuisine is. Sahara's meats are heavily spiced and a delight to devour. The kebab is flavourful ozzing slightly of lamb juice and natural oils. Shagaff is perfectly chargrilled and very aromatic, with small amounts of fat inviting you for a taste. The meats are normally taken with some pitta bread. Although these are very flavourful dishes, it can be a bit dry for Malaysian standards. This is where the creamy chickpeas humus plays a role wetting the throats after a flavourful session of meats and kebabs. If you're on the patio, try out the shisha pipe (RM10). Choose from orange, apple, and strawberry flavoured tobacco, look at the stars and simply drift into dreamland... Wah! :) As always, everyone and anyone is invited! Dinner is at 8:30pm as usual and, as per procedure, if you're interested in coming kindly either leave a comment here (preferred!!!), email me, or phone me for additional details and/or bookings (by Friday afternoon the latest please) with details on how many friends/mistresses/family you will be bringing. Address details (and map) are as follows: Hotel Fortuna 87, Jalan Berangan, Off Jalan Bukit Bintang, 50200 Kuala Lumpur. Tel: 603-21448310 Fax: 603-21448342 See you there! ;)
