Travel Plans0 commentsMood: Meh. *continues munching preserved yak sausage* Reading: Firms urged to back design talent Currently listening to: Helena - My Chemical Romance Quote of the day: "Travel is only glamorous in retrospect." - Paul Theroux Horrible day at work today. Not only did i suddenly realise the sheer amount of work set before me (all of which are part of a massively complex web of interlocking deadlines) but i also had to contend with the fact that my neck is STILL killing me and has now been joined by that old familiar spectre called severe sleep deprivation (dear valium - you SUCK!). *siiiigh* And to top it all of its beginning to look as though my bank account has seen better days. So much for saving up - gotta try and budget myself with a tad more discipline since i haven't gotten an allowance from my folks since... hrmmm... since... whoa. Has it been THAT long already? :o Still, i think keeping myself at RM200/week (since i walk to work) should be sufficient even with the weekly flamboyant dinners, ciggies, driving range expenses and all that. Actually, hang on a sec... *whips out handy Windows calculator* ...come to think of it a fair few people owe me some money. Let's see... RM500+ from my dad (he forgot to withdraw some cash while i was driving him to the airport), RM400 from that French translation ad thingy that i did for Kristin a few months back, RM50 from my co-worker, RM200 worth of spare change that i've yet to take to the bank, etc, etc... Holy shit! Thats almost RM1100 right there! AND its payday tomorrow (i think). :) Ok. I take that back. *relieved* At any rate it looks like i'll be draining the coffers again soon enough since Serina invited me to go up to Kuching to teach those poor, poor, deprived people the joy that is salsa. I mean, looking at Serina its pretty obvious (*snort*) that there are some fine ballroom/latin teaching establishments over there but... not a single salsa teacher/club? Hard to believe... And judging from the amount of interested parties that she has indicated would want to attend there's definitely a significant market opening for salsa over there! Still, i'm not even at an intermediate (i'm pre-int) level yet so i guess its only fair to Oh yeah, thats not all - i'm also planning to swing by Kota Kinabalu (finally!) while i'm at it to say hi Selina and all her crazy alcoholic friends (the pics are at the bottom half of the page)! I'll try and time it so that i end up there just in time for Saturday night drinks (and hopefully not end up exporting my version of crazy)... erm... so can anyone hook me up with a bed or a reference to an economical motel of some sort? Please? *puppy eyes* Right, my schedule is tentatively as follows - you're all free to join me for either leg of the trip but you organise your own travel arrangements ok? Keeps things simpler for me... ;) Tue 25th: Take the evening/night flight to Kuching. Arrive at around midnight. Wed 26th - Sat 29th: Spend time in Kuching. Grab a MAS flight to KK at some point. Sat 29th - Tue 1st: Arrive KK. Get drunk (hopefully). Fly off Tueday morning. Easy right? Well... thats the plan at any rate and i've definitely got to book my tickets by this week as well as make sure that there's space on the MAS flight between KK and Kuching as well as figuring out the cost. Basically, from what i've seen so far, total air travel fees should hover just below the RM500 mark... Oh, there IS an alternate plan though - depending on my success in negotiating my leave with my boss i might just be able to take the whole week off which would allow me to leave for Kuching on Fri 21st instead and return from KK at some point during the week (probably Wed or Thu). I'll know for certain tomorrow... Thats about it - but check out this cool bit of tech i spotted online: The Sun Trap Full article here. A solar-powered handbag designed by a student from Brunel University promises to make finding keys and other items at the bottom of a bag easier. The handbag, dubbed Sun Trap, uses a solar cell attached to the outside of the bag to trap energy from sunlight. The energy is stored in an internal battery which lights up the lining. The lining is made from an electroluminescent material similar to that found in mobile phones and is lit up by the bag's zip which acts as a switch. The bag goes dark when the zip is closed or after 15 seconds if it is accidentally left open... ...A secondary use of the portable battery is as an emergency charger for mobile phones and other wireless devices. Nifty! At least now you know what to get her on her birthday... ;) Right, thats it - time to hit the sack. Blog Post Of The Day empty shell [Boon] "putting my stuff away in boxes. man, the apartment is slowly but surely vanishing. its a little off-setting. not a hell of a lot to say at this point in time. which prolly explains for the lack of posts. anyway....back to this. b" Welcome back man! :)
