Mum's Place0 commentsHi all! Its that time of the week again and Sneexe has kindly offered to take up the (very unenviable may i add) task of organisng all you monkeys for this Saturday's dinner... :p So without much further ado... here's Sneexe! Tastebud orgasm has an address, and it's Mum's Place, 31-39 Jalan PJU 8/5A Damansara Perdana, Damansara Phone: 03-7727 8443 / 03-7726 3376 How to reach your oral explosion: Prepare yourself to experience taste explosions and sensory stimuli of your tastebuds that will have you chowing down with reckless abandon. It's totally wholesome, healthy, AND deadly delicious. Complex palate of a thousand spices painstakingly prepared makes for delicately balanced flavours AND powerful impact. Can't imagine? Wait till you try it. We never fail to end up polishing our plates- wiping them down with the last grains of rice... Estimated budget information: Somewhere between RM 20 - 35 per person. You want pictures you say? ARrrgh. Go google. The place has been reviewed by heaps of delighted KL-ites and awarded too. ... About the cuisine: If you've never experienced the pleasures of the oral cavity which may be found at Mum's Place Damansara Perdana (yes that IS a clickable link), you should. And if you've been there before and had the mouth-wateringly good fortune to taste their signature dishes, you won't need any persuasion to be jumping at the chance to do it again. It's the real deal on Portugese Peranakan fare; and for those of you not in the know; this is an impressively tongue-blowing fusion cuisine that's been polished to practised perfection by the generations of a culture of finicky culinares harking way back to the era of the Malacca sultanate. Oops. Let me try to say that in English. The Peranakan folks are reknowned for their food culture. They take painstaking pride in their skill at food preparation. As anyone who's ever read Emily of Emerald Hill; or enjoyed a lovingly (smotheringly) home-cooked meal at a Nyonya household would know... there is an almost sacrosanct importance placed on cooking ability... (the ever popular Top Hat creation is just one little boat in an absolute armada of gastronomic inventions to their credit...) And after all, you couldn't expect any less; once the obsessive-compulsive streak of those tasty traditional Chinese culinaires (remember the gwailo-fiance-invited-to-dinner scene in Amy Tan's Joy Luck Club?) had tumbled into bed with the newfound SouthEast Asian abandonment of seductive, spicy Malay flavours.... voila. The birth of a passionate new cuisine culture. (The fame of which has contributed to the success of otherwise erm.. fast-food-franchise-standard-fare places like food chain Penang Village) However, the Malaccan Peranakan community went on to infuse into the heady mix the touch of Portugese DNA... the dishes incorporate ingredients less commonly found in Penang Nyonya food (you'll note beef on their menu and smoked fowl...) So. Enough with the history. Bookings are necessary because the place is always packed out- leave your name in the comments or let the usual contact people know.... Waaaah, sounds good! The after dinner plans are still, as yet, up in the air but i'm guessing that we might be going along with Leonard's suggestion of some sort of Chinese ice cream desserts around Damansara (SS2?) so be sure to check back here for further details. As always, everyone and anyone is invited! Dinner is at 8:30pm as usual and, as per procedure, if you're interested in coming kindly either leave a comment here, or at Sneexe's blog, email me, or phone Sneexe for additional details and/or bookings (by Friday afternoon the latest please) with details on how many friends/mistresses/family you will be bringing. See you there! ;) PS: PLEASE confirm with me by Friday evening at the LATEST and please, sweet Jeebus on a pogo stick, stick to your confirmations mmmkay? It just makes
