Flamin' J Firehouse0 commentsYup, thats right, its time again for our weekly gastronomical outing! Right, going straight to the point - this week's choice of venue will be the Flamin' J Roadhouse up in the Hartamas Shopping Centre! I actually had lunch here today (Wed) with my usual lunch buddies, and let me tell you - the place doesn't disappoint! Despite the relatively... erm... 'kitsch' interior the place offers some seriously large portions of food for relatively a more than decent price without a drop in quality. Case in point - RM15 for a 3/4lb burger??? Is big! :p Ok, i lie - for the sheer size of most of the items on the menu the prices are ridiculously low! Here's a review from The Star's Kuali: “This means food that comes in huge portions,” said Choong. Having lived in the United States, he was disappointed to find the food servings in most restaurants here small yet pricey. Upon returning home, Choong went in search of “big meals” only to discover that none could satisfy his “hunger.” His futile search resulted in the birth of Flamin’ J Firehouse. “We give our customers high quality food served in true American portions minus the hefty price tag,” said Choong. Choong has come up with a signature dish he called J’s All American Philly Cheese Steak, a popular snack in the United States. It is a massive burger filled with strips of juicy steak topped with melted cheese. This burger comes with a choice of three types of sauces – Black Pepper, Mushroom and Pomodora, which is a tomato-based sauce. According to the chief chef Mark Loh, they use only grain-fed beef, which needs no tenderising. “Tenderisers and artificial flavourings make the meat tough and leathery,” said Loh. Chilled beef is flown in from Australia and New Zealand and stored at the outlet’s manufacturing factory in Puchong to preserve their freshness and natural taste. [read more] Heck, in true American style they even have a 'Python' eating challenge! Long story short (and any potential innuendo dealing with male reproductive organs aside) this involves the herculean task of eating a 2 foot long sub stuffed with meat, cheese, and mushrooms as well as a side plate of crisps within an hour - with the prize being that your photo gets taken for all posterity AND you get your meal for free (RM45 - not bad!). Any takers? Oh, by colleague Samarth was insane enough to attempt the Python for lunch today as you can see: And yes. The Python won (but only just!). ;) Details and directions: Right, directions... The Hartamas Shopping Centre is located near Sri Hartamas (duh). At the main traffic junction - depending on which direction you're coming from - turn in the opposite direction of Hartamas proper. That is, if you were coming from Bangsar, you'd turn left at the lights to go to, say, Bestaris. This is bad - you should turn right, and then take a left at the nearby T-junction and go all the way down until you see the mall on your left. Good luck. :) Lot P3L & P3M (2nd Floor) Hartamas Shopping Centre 60 Jalan Sri Hartamas 1 50480 Kuala Lumpur Malaysia Tel: 03-6201 7750 I'm planning an after-dinner event of some sort as well (anyone know any decent bars around Plaza Damas?) so check back later for any further updates 'k? Right, here's the usual breakdown/disclaimer thingamabob: Dinner is at 8:30pm as usual and, as per procedure, if you're interested in coming kindly either leave a comment here (preferred!!!), email me, phone me, or get in touch with Leonard for additional details and/or bookings (by Thursday afternoon please) with details on which event(s) you are coming for and how many friends/mistresses/family you will be bringing. During the night itself the tables are always booked under my name (that would be "Patrick" ya durned monkeigh!). As always, anyone who reads this is welcome to come! :) And now, for some random pics from Huey Yee taken on the day and the one before:
